Keith Haring: A word from his city.
Keith Haring was a local artist who did ‘street art’ and was arrested for it many times. He died at 32 from AIDS. The photo below, which looks like a mugshot, was taken by Andy Warhol which demonstrates the high regard he was held in by his contemporary colleagues. I have no doubt, given what I know about Warhol that the photo is intended to look like a mugshot. Harings works were done for the public often at his own expense and came from his heart and soul. They are iconic, unique, and ubiqutous especially in The City, but also throughout the world. They are priceless today. People using this public pool have an incredible mural to ‘be’ with that money can’t buy.

This Haring outside mural is at a NYC Public Pool. it’s about 32 years old. The caretaker unlocked the heavy gate to let me in to photograph it. iKnowTheCareTaker. He spoke about it in hushed tones. He knows it’s an honor to be its caretaker and what it represents. He didn’t need to let me in, but when I told him I wanted to photograph it, he couldn’t have been nicer or more accomodating. Thank you sir.
